For Patty

I had never known what love was,
The love of one woman for me,
Nor my one love for that woman,
Until you came into my life.

I love you. You are the beginning
Of my morning.
And you are the ending
Of my night.

I never knew love would work for me
Until you taught me otherwise.
I have forgotten how to write poetry,
But I have learned how to love.
